About the event
Lenora Green-Turner, Soprano
Nicholas Rohler, Piano
We will be presenting songs of the African Diaspora from the Classical period to the 21st Century. They include pieces that are rarely performed and of many different cultures. You will hear songs by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St. George nicknamed "The Black Mozart", Creole songs by musicologist Maud Cuney Hare, the artistically dramatic voice of Betty Jackson King, the expressionistic voice of eclecticism by David Baker, South African pieces learned with the help of the great soprano Goitsemang Lehoybe, and the moving pieces of our great alum Dr. Carlos Simon, Jr.
